A Star Barn
by Mary Ann Fraser (located at Star Elementary)
It was shortly after one of our better snow storms, and I couldn’t resist pulling over to snap a few photos of the Moyle barn on State Street near the 16 blanketed in glistening snow. I later referred to several of those photos when I made an acrylic painting of the scene from that day. I was so glad I had stopped because within a year of my completing the painting the barn was torn down. The star that appears on the front was a nod toward our town. It’s also worth noting that a barn star, among German-American farmers in particular, means good luck much like a horseshoe mounted over a doorway.
