Snow Day Information & Reminders for Star Residents

Winter weather has arrived, and we want to ensure residents have accurate information about snow removal and ways to help keep our community safe.

Who Plows the Roads in Star?

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is responsible for plowing and maintaining non-state highways in Star.

ACHD follows a priority-based plowing schedule:

  • Priority 1: Major arterials and emergency routes
  • Priority 2: Collector roads
  • Priority 3: Local roads, as resources allow

For more details on ACHD’s winter operations and plowing priorities, visit their Winter Maintenance Page.

How You Can Help

While ACHD is working hard to clear the roads, residents can help improve safety and accessibility in their neighborhoods:

✅ Keep storm drains clear – Clearing snow from storm drains near your property helps prevent flooding as snow melts. Find your nearest storm drain using ACHD’s Storm Drain Map.

✅ Clear around fire hydrants – If you have a fire hydrant near your property, keep at least a 3-foot clearance around it to ensure first responders can access it in an emergency.

✅ Avoid shoveling snow into the street – Snow pushed into the street can create hazards and delay road clearing efforts. Instead, pile snow onto your property where it won’t obstruct walkways or drains.

✅ Be a good neighbor – If you know someone who may struggle to clear their driveway or sidewalk—such as seniors or those with mobility challenges—offer to help if you’re able.

Stay Safe & Drive Cautiously

Road conditions can change quickly during and after a snowstorm. If you must drive, allow extra time, reduce speed, and increase following distance to stay safe.

Thank you for your patience as ACHD crews work to clear the roads, and for doing your part to help keep our community safe and accessible!
